We decided that one full day of school was enough, and took the kids out at 11am on day two to travel to Connecticut. Saia’s 16th birthday present was tickets to see Lawrence and Lake Street Dive, TOGETHER, on Friday 9/5. So another road trip it was! We just pretended like summer wasn’t over.
Quick dinner at the hotel.
And off to the Westville Music Bowl! There was some issue with parking that kept people away for a long time, but we arrived EARLY in time for merch and a lot of lounging. Perfect night, warm and clear and a beautiful place to hang!
Concert t-shirts!
Saia MAY have cried when (the band) Lawrence took the stage.
Do You Wanna Do Nothin’ With Me?
Whatcha Want.
Happy campers.
Then Lake Street Dive. Saia’s seen them four times, this was Emma’s third! I can still hear their tiny little toddler voices singing these songs…..
Cool girls play string instruments.
Side Pony, fam favorite.
Last song of the night:
Emma is a fan of the hotel breakfast. (They had a waffle maker.)
Saturday morning cartoons before checkout.
On the way into New Haven we passed a sign that said “PEZ Visitor Center” and we all agreed that had to be our first stop Saturday morning. How could we pass this up?
It was just as fun/creepy as we thought it would be?
The aftermath. They were on a mission to get a rainbow tongue by placing different color PEZ in each section. Mixed results.
We decided to try a Connecticut beach and decided perhaps Maine has spoiled us?
And we stopped to wander around Yale for a couple of hours.
Shake Shack on the way home.
And Saia’s brain tries to process that she has never had a Slurpee. Or an Icee? Slushie? Whatever it was, she combined flavors and thought it was the greatest thing she had ever tasted.
One giant storm later (they closed I-84!) we made it home and were forced to reckon with the fact that yes, summer has truly ended and it was back to school. HERE WE GO.
